mistery gaps in rear quarters.
Hello. I amd looking at buying a 1971 gs Skylark, the question i have is this. There are mistery gaps in the rear pilars. These have been mudded over, and are cracking. the paint is all faded off. I don't think that it was a vinal top. So are the gaps factory seams from the rear quarters, or were they replaced? The reast of the body is in fare original shape.
Ant help would be great. Thanks. BuickSmith
I assume your talking about the area of the rear sail panel where the quarter goes into the roof. That is where the factory seam is for the quarter panel. If the car had a vinyl top, that seam is very roughly finished from the factory. Buick wasnt concerned about it as it was getting covered wit ha vinyl top. Look at the trim tag to see if it was a vinyl originally. The paint code for the upper body will have a letter. If it was painted, it will have a number.
if the car had no vinyl top, then the roof to quater joint would have been leaded. with a vinyl roof, they would have used a filler like bondo. and yes it does crack over time.
Thanks for the info. i will look at the code today, and mabe come hame. with a new to me GS. BuickSmith |
