Fire does not benefit water. Fire can become an enemy to water by evaporating it. Water does not benefit fire. Water can become an enemy to fire by putting it out.
Sasori and Deidara - Country of Wind and Country of Earth
Wind does not benefit earth. Wind can become an enemy to earth by eroding it. Earth does not benefit wind. Earth can become an enemy to wind by blocking its range of motion.
Natural Complements: the team members use teamwork and fight together for the most part
Kakuzu and Hidan - Country of Waterfall and Country of River
A river flows into a waterfall, which then flows into a river. It becomes a neverending cycle.
Leader and Blue Hair - Country of Lightning/Thunder and Country of Rain
During a storm, rain is accompanied by lightning/thunder and lightning/thunder is accompanied by rain.
Country of Grass has no natural complement or opposite. Therefore, Zetsu works alone.

Here is the point coming; We know that Sasori was partner of Orochimaru before he left. Also, we know that Orochimaru left with his ring, so Akatsuki can't replace him by a new member.
What does that mean? Everyone had a partner. Orochimaru had left. Sasori left without a partner. Then Deidara became Sasori's partner. Guess who is alone now? Yes, Zetsu. Deidara was Zetsu's partner in the past, already. Grass amp; Earth
And Orochimaru was Fire, Sasori was Wind. Wind either can distinguish or give a boost to a fire, and fire can...?

I don't think everyone had a partner before. Jiraiya said they split to teams after Orochimaru left. What Sasori and Oro had was not an official Akatsuki partnership, but rather two guys deciding to stick together.

Actually, the manga stated that Sasori was Oro's partner if i remember correctly.

Akatsuki forms with 9 members. They prepare their common goals by gathering jutsu from all over the world.
Oro and Sasori notice the similarities in their personal goals and team up. The other guys do not necessarily team up at all.
Some time later: Itachi joins. Oro leaves. Sasori starts to hate Oro.
Akatsuki split in pairs.

Actually, the Original Akatsuki had 10 members not nine.
The rest of your post is pure speculation, in fact the manga disagrees with you.
Itachi did joined akatsuki when Oro was in akatsuki, reason why Oro leave akatsuki due to Itachi.
There are ten rings, and you know that Hades had ten fingers.So there were 10 akatsuki members
The pairings may actually not have any bearing on element
They seem to typically pair intellect with pure brawn One member is a hot head compared to the other
Also, water and fire create mist which is good for concealment while earth and wind are to sand in the Naruto universe
The interesting part is how they were sent out, earth and wind went to capture sand?
are there any other such connections?
