I thought this was a pretty cool addition to the chapter, Asuma flipping his trench knives round and pumping more chakra in to make a sword

nice little idea and the obvious implications of future possibilities with certain ther characters ^_^

why he didn't do it against Kisame at first to decapitate him

It was indeed neat and who knows, maybe it's a more recent development of his, not everyone can ride the crazy-train* like Naruto.

Asuma is going to do some awesome moves this fight.

maybe he didn't develop it all that much yet? afterall it takes about years to cut a leaf for a normal winjutsu user.

The wind sword is made of chakra. What else from a certain death it will give against Samehada?

The knuckle blades was the faster way to counter that huge swing kisame made.

Ofcourse, half burnt Asuma without the use of his right arm and left leg, who is assuming the fetal position at the moment, will pull awesome moves.

I'm talking when Asuma made that little scratch in Kisame's face. If he can enlarge so much the blades why didn't do that before. Kisame would be dead by now.

well, I accep that.

The Hien (Flying Swallow) is the jutsu name of Asuma's chakra knives and that jutsu is a B ranked jutsu.  It's possible for the extension of the blade to hold another jutsu name and be a higher level rank, kind of like Chidori and Raikiri.
