Is It Just Me, Or Is Kishimoto Tweaking Itachi's amp; Sasuke's personalities?

- In part 1, it was undeniable that Itachi was an evil bastard. He tortured both Sasuke and Kakashi, and seemed as if he took great pleasure in doing so.

In the most recent chapters, however, Itachi seems sane, and one could even stretch as far saying it seems as if he has regrets. Evil is not a way to describe Itachi as of late - he, frankly, looks depressed.

- Sasuke left his friends and Village, to go train with Orochimaru - and everyone predicted that he'd probably end up paying the ultimate price for doing so. Many felt he'd become this evil bastard after spending so much tiime alone with Orochimaru ... but, uh .... I imagine those people are puzzled by the way Sasuke's turned out.

While he still seems determined to carry out his plan ... he almost seem likeable now. I detested the quot;Emochihaquot; in part 1, but now ... it almost seems that Kishi is trying to redeem his character by having him look more like a kind-hearted avenger ... rather than an arrogant prick, who betrayed his village for selfish revenge...

Maybe it's just me, but I'm sure their are many of you who noticed a change in Itachi and Sasuke's personalities. For those of you who do - why do you suppose Kishi has chosen to portray them in THIS way so close to their upcoming battle ... rather than they way we've come to know them?

it suits Sasuke better. Itachi should stay evil

I liked it when sasuke was a caring guy back in part 1

And Itachi is supposed to be Insane

i like sasuke as evil better.

The reason Sasuke isn't quot;emochihaquot; anymore is because he got older and wiser. As for Itachi...I don't think he changed at all.

I wonder if Kishi will continue to attempt to portray Sasuke and Itachi as similar, yet opposing, figures.

The following is a product of my cracky brain still thinking Itachi didn't kill his clan. I think it is important to show his reactions to illustrate that he does have feelings just like any other person, that he must have had some deeper reason to say he did massacre the clan. Simply, Itachi lets his expression slip now because it is not necessary to show such a cold face to someone who isn't his target or to someone he isn't trying to spur on with hatred.

I don't think there has been any real tweaks or changes in their character. I just think we are seeing more parts of their character.

Itachi has always been the somewhat respectful, quiet type, who takes precautions. That has remained true In part 2. The whole evil part only showed when interacting with Sasuke.

Sasuke can be interpreted differently by different people. Obviously Sasuke always kept to himself and was silent and usually just brushed others off. His quot;emoquot; and arrogant personality shined the most when dealing with his only real buddy, Naruto. Sasuke right now is just using people and has no real emotional ties to those around him, which is y not much of his emo/arrogant traits are surfacing.

As far as Sasuke being kind-hearted...I guess you mean how he dealt with the ninja cats and letting people live. The letting people live is based on his Konoha upbringing and trying not to be Itachi. Him speaking respectfully for the first time ever after the Uchiha massacre is due to the cat people being a part of his childhood...a time when sasuke was the biggest pussy around, so of course he stills acts that way towards them. Its not a new trait or different personality. Its just the resurfacing of his kindness from his childhood...for that moment.

But if Kishi is indeed trying to tweak the brothers traits, then he is doing it to make the brothers fight not end in them choosing not to kill each other. Or to have Itachi pull a Sasori (a ridiculus change in thought at the last minute allowing himself to die or save his opponent), leaving Sasuke with nothing but regret.

just my 2 cents.

well there is a theory that states that Naruto did beat some sence into Sasuke  but thats just a theory

Every thread has Sasuke in it, i'm getting sick and tired of seeing Sasuke's name all the time. It's always Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke Sasuke . Sasuke pwn n00bs!

How can Itachi's personality be changed?  He didn't have one in Part 1.

Excellent post.

Sasuke was never emo, he just refused to be social. We're not being shown a kind-hearted Sasuke, but one that still doesn't like to do things that are unnecessary. It's not surprising that he didn't kill those he came across for the sake of killing, because he hates Itachi for having done that.

Also, it's high time that we got a little more of Itachi's character. The time is drawing near for him to come clean about his motives, and for us to know the truth that he sent Sasuke to find all those years ago. Kishimoto needs to be setting that up now.

God NOO i think this is a serious thread Divinstrosity wants a intellectual talk about Uchiha's .. ...

I think we are just seeing Sasuke's maturity now. He's not the impulsive cocky brat he once was. Hell, he hasn't really shown any arrogance like people suggest. His speech to Orochimaru was no different from any other banter we've heard during a fight from everyone else. What this is is the result of someone stepping back and taking a hard look at their life. He's willing to live with the decisions he's made. But he still holds on to his core beliefs.

Itachi is the same as in part one, a total enigma.

I don't think Itachi has changd much but we are just seeing more into his character. He was still pretty much an enigma in Part 1,

Sasuke is different. He has grown compared to part 1. He let his emotions rule him more and the Curse Seal didn't help his situation. Now he is a man with a plan and he is focused on one thing. Part 1 had him in conflict between revenge and his bonds. Now we see that he chose revenge but the his bonds have altered his method of operation.

Itachi has never been a straight forward character from my POV and he didn't appear to be insane. Itachi - as it seems to me - appears to believe that killing the Uchiha Clan was necessary or even a just act not that it was some horrible crime.

If you truly believed what you were doing was right - to the degree you'd kill your own family - would you feel regret?

I know, people's personalities changing slightly over time? Preposterous! Everyone knows that personalities remain static forever, that's why Naruto is still an attention whore and NOT a crybaby, Sakura is still an uncaring shallow cunt, Neji is still a jerk, and Sai is still an emotionless freak.

I hadn't really realized that, but Sasuke does seem considerably less emo...Itachi has just been quiet. And you know what they say about the quiet ones.

Well you haven't noticed Sasuke isn't being outclassed by anyone...

He started being emo (part 1) because he couldn't aquire the power as fast as he could... and he watched Naruto grow in power greatly... a power he himself probably wanted.

EARLIER when Sasuke fought those um... quot;Death brothersquot; at the beginning of the Zabuza arc. He seemed pretty confident of himself... He also didn't mind helping Naruto free Kakashi out from that water prision.

He starts to get upset when you saw Naruto defeat Haku, a person he couldn't defeat earlier by Naruto (the guy that was at the lowest in the academy) And they he really starts to get upset when He and Naruto fought Orochimaru in the Forest of death. Sasuke wanted to quit while Naruto continued to fight and was ABLE to hold him back.

This cleared up when Sasuke learned Chidori. Everyone remembers this event... Everyone waiting for Sasuke to appear and fight Gaara in the finals. Sauske appeared and he was as fast as Lee and made Gaara bleed!

So now I could go on and on til we end up at the current Sasuke...

Point now is Sasuke has the power... He's not going to be a whiner...

As for Itachi...I haven't seen enough of him to identify his personality...
