It's amazing and a little scarey to me that the last episode of THE TONIGHT SHOW with Johnny Carson aired 17 years ago! Johnny, Ed, and Doc set the standard that all others have tried to live up to. Ed - We'll miss ya.

I just heard he was a MARINE fighter pilot. The word "Patriot" comes to mind. Nothing but the best! Thank you SIR!! Rest in peace. Mike D.

Yup. Six air medals in fighters during WW2. Flew "bird dogs" in Korea. He would be a hero to me even if he had never been on television.

Jay Thomas replayed an interview with Ed and it was great, mostly talked about his military career. A real gentleman, gonna miss him.

Ed was great on the Carson show. I thought the banter back and forth between him and Johnny was some of the funnisest TV ever. Remeber the Carnack bits? Funny funny stuff. Also remember the also deceased Phil Hartman impersonations of Ed on SNL "YES YOU ARE CORRECT SIR!" Classic.

Ed, was also from the next town over from me. Lowell, Mass. A local legend.

I'm with you!  I can't hardly believe it's been that long.  Leno has even retired now.  Time flies.

Ed may have had his problems late in life but he will still be missed.

I just heard about Ed McMahon on the radio. With Farrah and Michael, Ed got squeezed out of the news. He was an entertainer, and sad to hear he's gone.
